Our vision
A global network of sensors - satellite, airborne, land/water-based - to support the adaptive management of planetary health and human activities.
Sensor-based systems can transform the approach to addressing critical issues related to climate change, sustainability, and equity by providing the essential measurements and modeling needed, with the spatial and temporal sampling needed, to understand the functioning of Earth systems and the intersection with human activities, and to inform the development and implementation of new policies.
Our short-term objectives
- To galvanize the Stanford research community to advance the adoption of existing sensors, and to develop, design, and deploy new sensors.
- To galvanize the Stanford teaching community to educate students along the full pathway: from sensors to solutions.
- To galvanize an international open-science community that shares data, workflows, and educational materials; and inspires and supports new forms of collaboration.
